Model for integrative medicine and Ayurveda


Early May Dr Simone Hunziker (President of the Indo-Swiss Ayurveda Foundation, medical and academic director of SAMA-Swiss Ayurvedic Medical Academy) visited the Hospital for Naturopathy and Integrative Medicine with its Institute for Traditional Indian Medicine (Ayurveda) at the University Hospital Centre Duisburg-Essen ( Kliniken Essen Mitte) in Germany.

Prof. Dr. Gustav J. Dobos, head of the chair of naturopathy at university of Duisburg-Essen, is known as the leading pioneer in integrative medicine in Germany and Europe. He is in charge of the Hospital for Naturopathy and Integrative Medicine that he has set up in 1999 as part of the university hospital Essen-Mitte. The Institute for Ayurveda (Traditional Indian Medicine) is headed by Dr. phil. Syal Kumar, originating from Kerala, who over the last 8 years has created a model of complementary medicine for Ayurveda in the West by creating the necessary standard operating procedures. He oversees out-patient and in-patient treatments, research and publication activities as well as a post-graduate training in Ayurveda for biomedical doctors.

Dr Simone Hunziker was invited to give a lecture to the collaborators of the university hospital Essen-Mitte on the Swiss regulatory model for complementary medicine and Ayurveda.
