Swiss regulatory model for Ayurveda

Switzerland is the first western country to recognise alternative and complementary medicine in its public health system. The Swiss population has in 2009 through a historic popular vote enshrined this recognition in its constitution and leveraged a strong political will that has allowed the government to incrementally undertake the numerous reforms required for a successful implementation.

Thanks to tireless efforts over more than 10 years the Swiss Ayurveda community has succeeded in getting Ayurveda recognised in the Swiss public health system and can today propose a useful role model for the institutionalisation of Ayurveda in other countries.

The following documents showcase the Swiss regulatory model and the situation of Ayurveda in the health system
